Staff Secured Program:
The Staff-Secured Treatment Unit is a 10-bed unit located in the Behnken North Building for males between 12 to 21 years of age. The Unit is designed to provide a safe and secure environment for males in need of immediate stabilization. Youth placed on this unit may be physically aggressive, acutely psychiatrically disturbed, pose serious potential for self-harm or harming others, or pose a significant risk of going AWOL. They participate in planned, structured recreational activities, and do not leave the campus.
Open Residential Step-Down Program:
The Behnken South Treatment Unit is a 10-bed treatment unit for residents that
are moving to a less-restrictive environment from the Staff-Secure Unit, newly
admitted residents that require a more structured and supervised treatment
environment, and residents from other units who may, from time to time, require
a short-stay in a more structured milieu.
These children attend school for half a day at Richmond Community Schools on the
grounds of Richmond State Hospital . This unit has a television room for
entertainment and games. Residents with their staff join other residents
for their meals in the Wellness Center.
