Sarah Shaver spoke with Pastor Clifford Nunn, Wernle’s Campus Chaplain and Director of Development. They look for opportunities the Holy Spirit brings to speak into the lives of the young people and their families. They serve mostly junior high and high school-aged children who have been in the system for a while. He then explained their therapy model, what we need to understand about children in crisis, to look past the trauma and see the image of God in the child. He also talked about the effects of the pandemic on children, the Wernle care model, inpatient and outpatient services, their Father Engagement program, and the importance of healthy families. Churches are a huge part of their support and they and people in the community support with gifts in kind like clothing and hygiene products, Christmas parties, and other events.
